Description
1962 DBD 500cc Gold star Catalina named after the track on Catalina Island off the coast of California I believe.
This old lady was used competitively by Mr Turner of Fresno who was the second owner Stan is still alive so I could get the first owners name I would say. The bike was put into storage some forty plus years ago until 2 years back when I purchased the bike.
Stan took off the GP carb and fitted a mono block as they are more user friendly. the GP carb is there ready to install tied to the handle bars. all numbers are shown in the pics. the frame number is CB34 which did cause me some concern at first but after talking to David White who was a BSA sales manager back in the day I am now less concerned :) I am sure there will be many emails and am happy to publish any relevant information which any of you guys wish to pass over so all can see.
SCT Gear box. DBD engine 1962 from the numbers CB34 Clipper frame.
I am told that Hal Apzin in the USA built 50 or so goldies towards the end and Stan said this is one of them.
ok good points are its in one big chunk with a dbd engine and scrambler gear box with a wader comp magnets and a GP carb will probably run but I have not tried her yet.
bad bits triumph twin leader front wheel and forks. this was a better set up than the single sider front wheel from BSA wearing a standard oil tank not the alloy catalina central bag
more good bits. I have the front wheel and should have forks I have a central oil tank which looks like it will fit but its not a genuine catalina tank may be a rarer one???
