Description
This is a 1949 BSA B31 which is a 350cc overhead valve single. This bike was a project that has been forgotten as its been laid in the last owners shed for the last 30 years. There is no paper work with this bike so it will need registering.
The bike starts and runs and lights up. I have rode around briefly on it to confirm the clutch and gears work. Its scruffy but pretty complete. Interestingly the engine is a ZB31 from 1950. the frame is 1949 and the last owner put a heavy weight M20 girder front end on it. So it has correct M20 girders front guard and wheel. There is a Smiths chronometric on the bars and a speedo drive on the wheel. both of which appear to work. its just missing a cable for these to be functioning.
The bike is an ideal project. The engine starts first or second kick and is not noisy or smokey and shows good oil return. Gears and clutch all work. This is a rigid machine which are sort after and with the girders it does have that slightly older look. This could be run as is or would be ideal as a project that requires cosmetics. The wheels are painted. but would have been in 1949 / 50 due to the chrome shortages at that period. The bike is not so untidy that it could not be used as is. I think it would be a shame to see this broken down for bits. but it has to be said that the value of the bits is probably as high as the bike these days. so a moderate reserve has been put on it.
