Description
Back on the market. 1948 Indian Chief with matching numbers. This was listed before, but then failed to start. I put a new generator/regulator on and replaced some wiring. Now that it runs, I'm ready to sell.
This bike is an older restoration that is very original. It needs fine tuning and a paint job to be a $45,000 motorcycle. As you see the bike is right hand shift.
The new generator is not stock. But the old generator and regulator come with the bike. The old generator has a broken lead that needs repaired. The bearings and brushes are good. So, I believe it would work fine, if that wire is repaired or replaced.
The paint on the gas tanks has some crazing and there are some spots on the fenders. But no rust anywhere.
The gas tanks have been lined with that red stuff and there are no leaks in the gas system. The gaskets in the Linkert were all replaced when the generator was replaced.
There is a very slow drip of oil from the bottom of the casing.
The lead/acid 6 volt battery is not the original black Indian style. But the battery is excellent.
The odometer has not worked since I bought the bike (says 38,000). But the speedometer works fine.
I have put a copy of the video on YouTube at this address; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uC01uwrs2GM. However it is the same one on this ad. I made the video on April 16, 2019. And the bike was warm so it would start easier. That fine tuning will make the cold starts just as easy.
Now about that price. I expect there will be some negotiating. But if you expect a basket case bargain, don't waste my time.
