Description
Reluctant sale, but a real deal RGS if you've always fancied one. And, yes, the numbers are correct on the motor and the frame.
Motor: DA10 R 8416
Frame: GA10 716
History:Owned by a fellow in Plattsburg, New York who inherited it from his uncle 20 years ago. His uncle had bought it new in '63. It is a twin carb model, which I understand from the BSA Owner's Association was a US export feature.
He brought it to our shop for repairs and restoration in 2010. All receipts and work orders are available. The scope was for a patina restoration as he wanted to keep the frame paint/pinstriping original. Top end was a total rebuild and other primary/gearbox wear items replaced. The mag was rebuilt by Doug Wood in PA. Lots of new cycle parts. The owner owned an autobody shop and did the paint himself. Due to a variety of reasons he offered to sell it back to us for what he had into it, mostly to make sure it would go to a good home.
I've owned it two years and fussed, fettled and upgraded here and there. This includes an Alton 12Vdc conversion and LED head and taillights. Also an antisump check valve. There is a period correct rechromed grabrail that comes with it. The horn is period correct, but not stock. The original 6V generator and regulator, which is inop, comes with it. If you are an RGS guru, feel free to point anything else out and I'll post.
Why it is special:
This bike is like no other to ride. The sound and feel are unique (even for a British bike), the chronometric clocks are fun to watch do their thing and knowing you have to pay attention to choke, advance, etc. levers makes it an intimate classic bike experience. It is a perfect two up bike for tooling around our Vermont secondary roads.
I believe the 28K miles on the clock should be accurate. In total, less than 1K miles since the resto.
This bike is as handsome as it can be, and you might get a few ribbons at casual shows, but it is not concourse unless you want to take it there. It is better than a Condition 3 but not quite a Condition 2 (2019/20 Comprehensive Vintage Motorcycle Price Guide). Per the Guide, they peg it at $18 to $24K. I'm listing for $21K locally. Obviously, there is not a great pool of RGS bikes out there so the market kind of goes one machine at a time.
The bike has been registered and insured in VT and comes with a clean VT title (yes, title... VT is great that way!). We will work with the shipper of your choice and have had bikes shipped domestically and globally. We'll take a full photo suite and video as it is loaded o to their vehicle for your records.
About us: We are The Classic Bike Experience in Essex, VT. We specialize in vintage British bikes and are known especially for our Guild, which allows members to work on their own bikes with our help and tools. I am one of the owners and couldn't resist the RGS when the opportunity came. But, I have finished it to the level I wanted, enjoyed it for a few seasons and have other projects in the pipeline. Please call for more information. We can also Facetime or Skype to walk you around the bike, show it running etc.
Thanks for looking.
