Description
Selling my 1972 DucatiA year ago I purchased this bike from a fellow in the midwest who'd owned it since 1992. I think it might be the 672nd Ducati twin ever made, maybe in the summer of '72. Just speculation. Don't hold me to it. I don't know how many miles are on it; it looks like it quit working after 1700 miles or so. Because the previous owner like riding it in the cold, he upgraded to a 300 watt alternator so he could use a heated vest and hand warmers. He also upgraded the coils. I think they are GT40 Bosch super sports coil. The old Aprilia switches were replaced by that one black switch on the left side. I stuck an old rusty original switch there on the clutch perch just for kicks.
The front brake master cylinder is a newer Brembo. The brakes actually stop pretty well. I think. The headlight is a Bosch H4. Original fiberglass tank is long gone, along with the side covers. Currently using later metal ones. Original Amal carbs have been replaced with 34mm Dellorto. Seat recovered with one bearing the later Ducati script.

Over the year of my ownership I've ridden it no more than 6 times, no more than 100 miles. My garage is small so I am parting with it. I put in new clutch plates. Also, one of the petcocks was leaking. I ordered new ones and it was different threads so I had a guy weld new threads. Perfect job. Looks great, and didn't burn much paint of the bottom.
The exhaust is original but had been painted black. I wanted to rechrome it but they said they couldn't fill in the dents so I just had this other stuff put on there. Not quite as shiny as chrome. No restoration done. Just used as a driver. Miles unknown. Someone came by and said it smokes a little. Chrome is pitted on shock springs, headlight rim and stays, fender stays, shifter, brake lever, kickstarter, At 60 degree weather today I did a compression test. With a cold engine I got 115psi front, 90-95psi rear. After the compression test I did a short video of a startup.
