Description
Ducati 450 RT
I spent a long time looking for a good RT. There were only ever 500 made in 1971 and most of them went to the U. S.
The bike was restored to a high standard by a Ducati collector in the U. S. with originality being the priority. Once completed the bike then sat in a store on display. It was used for shows only.
I like to at least be able to use my bikes. (where's the fun in shiny?) even if I never seem to get a chance! I fitted a repro tank and mudguards (orange). so's to preserve the original tank. I Fitted modern electrics and road registered and MOT'd it. The electrics are converted to a Sachse electronic ignition and a better carb was fitted. because I wanted to use it and needed absolute reliability. The battery and ignition module are fitted inside a custom made air box and wired together using military spec connectors. Dyno set up by Mark at BSD. It's a very neat set up that works great. The orange bodywork is painted in a 70's Ducati colour. it's a personal thing. I don't like yellow. No modifications are permanent. it can be switch back in a few hours.
The original tank. (yellow) is extremely rare. not surprising really. a fibreglass tank on a 40 year old dirt bike. The wheel rims too are the original ones. these are impossible to find anymore. The list of original pieces goes on. such as the superpractic B throttle. Dellorto VBH carb. air filter housing. see attached photo.
It starts easily and reliably. It sounds great. looks great. it is great. It needs no further expense. just riding and appreciating.
It has 10 months MOT and tax. Comes with all the bits to convert back to stock with the exception of yellow front and rear mudguards. The only bad thing on the bike is the paint around the petrol cap on the orange tank. It started to lift. I've not repainted it. as this tank is just the every day tank. The yellow one is the good one.
This is. by a few thousand pounds. the cheapest RT currently for sale. This is for a quick sale and is not a reflection of the quality of the bike.
