Reluctant sale of my Honda VTR1000 SP2 Owned since 2010, with 2 previous keepers before that.
The bike was originally in Nicky Hayden colours. When I bought this bike all the red had been blacked out and was just a two tone, silver and black bike. Having always loved the Laguna Seca, Stars and Stripes livery it was the perfect candidate for a full rejuvenation. I painted this bike myself, and have been a professional airbrush artist since 2008. I have painted for a huge number of clients from TV programmes, musicians, footballers and movie sets, winning countless awards. My studio also sponsors one of the current TT Sidecar Race Teams.
This bike is fully airbrushed in House of Kolor Kustom Paints. These paints are the best available on the market. The bike gets a huge amount of attention wherever it goes as this livery is so rare. Honda never produced road going bikes in this livery, only a few paint shops painted this scheme under license. You can buy a cheap set of Chinese panels, however this is a fully painted bike with original Honda panels.
That said, this makes it a custom bike. Something very different from the rest, not available to anyone off the shelf. If you're someone who likes everything completely standard and original in the hope that it will be worth millions as a “barn find” in the future then move along, and good luck.
The mods are minor and tasteful and only improve the handling of the bike: The Power Commander III is pretty much essential for these bikes smoothing out the power delivery. The chain and sprocket race gearing makes the bike super punchy out of corners and able to keep up with the more modern sports bikes. The Yoshimura pipes were always the favorite on these bikes and sound incredible, perfectly paired with the K&N filters and mapped into the PCIII. The Aero Screen and Corbin seat make it more comfortable, whilst the headlight protectors and rear hugger add some additional protection.
I only rode this bike for a short time after completion and it has since sat in my house, pride of place in the conservatory. Having just completed a modern extension it's time for the bike to be enjoyed by someone else. Again, this is not an “officially licenced” replica (some of which are questionable). This is my own replica, with a few custom tweaks to really make it stand out.
The wheels are painted in a champagne gold base, with HOK Gold Metajul over the top. This was then painted with Spanish Gold Candy to add depth and sparkle that you don't usually see on race bikes. The white, red and green are flat base colours but the blue is a shimmer pearl paint that looks beautiful in the sun.
The paint is in perfect condition and is super smooth to the touch with a beautiful shine to it. It has not faded or cracked anywhere. There are a couple of very minor stone chips on the wheels and one on front mudguard.
I also have a matching AGV helmet (size medium), which although is “out of date” looks lovely on display with the bike.
Having been sat for a while I took the fuel tank off, and replaced the fuel pump, filter and hoses and gave the inside a good clean. I also replaced the Fuel Pressure Regulator. With a brand new battery fitted she started up first time and ran perfectly.
As it stands the bike can go one of two ways. Either she can be put back indoors as feature piece or she can be put back on the road. With this is mind I am not looking to do any further work on the bike as everything from here is subjective to each owner.
If it is to be recommissioned it would need all fluids changing and an MOT. It has only done 500 miles since the last MOT in 2013 before it was put indoors. I have a spare set of plugs, but as it starts and runs perfectly, I have not fitted these. In addition the front grips have deteriorated and would need replacing. Since being stood for some time and fettling about getting it running the FI light constantly flashes, having looked on a few forums this indicates to a bad earth somewhere. However, the bike runs fine and everything works as it should from what I can see.
Any inspection welcome. The bike is in great condition for its age. I am no detailer, but i'm sure someone with the skills and equipment that is available these days could make it look even better.
