Description
For sale is a late Velocette Venom Clubman Mk2 which I have owned for 40 years.
I am selling this bike due to ill health since I haven't ridden it for quite some time and therefore it will need recommissioning and also some work. For this reason I have set what I consider is a very realistic reserve price. There is an issue with the gearbox, and although all the gears will index correctly it is difficult to change up from second to third. This is the reason, together with top end oil leaks that I took it off the road. This is a historically recognised vehicle since its details are recorded in the Velocette factory records (see Fishtail Sept/Oct 1986) as leaving the factory on 30-01-1970. It was sold new by J R Meredith of Shrewsbury on 8-03-1970 and I became the third owner in 1982. It is also recorded on page 185 in the Velocette book by Ivan Rhodes 'Technical excellence exemplified'. It was originally supplied with a factory fitted Lucas coil ignition unit, I replaced this with a BTH magneto many years ago but still retain the contact breaker unit (see last photo) minus the coil itself, which is included in the sale as are the original clip-ons and an almost new clubman exhaust pipe. It comes with the original factory alternator rather than a dynamo. I also replaced the one piece pushrod tunnel with a finned Seymour unit, the original is now lost. Both engine, frame and gearbox numbers correctly match factory records. There is good compression when the engine is turned over and a good spark. There are a number of stainless steel fittings, paintwork and some chrome is beginning to show its age, there's a tear in the seat cover ( see photo 2) and minor dents in the right side of the petrol tank, rev counter clock is stuck (see photo 3). The V5 document is in my name.
