Description
1976 Harley-Davidson SXT 125 Spectacular, A True 100-Point Concours Restoration
Built By Dr. Bill Bucholz For The Roy Thacker Collection
Guys, this is an absolutely Pristine example — and without question the finest AMF Harley-Davidson two-stroke we've ever had through our shop. We Believe this is the best restored example in The USA.
We've restored hundreds of classic Harleys since opening our doors 15 years ago, and this bike stands on the top step of the podium. On a scale of 1–10, this restoration is an 11.
This is a full frame-off, 100-point concours-level restoration completed by master craftsman Dr. Bill.
This bike is more rolling artwork than motorcycle — yet it runs perfectly, rides beautifully, and is fully street legal.
Every Roy Thacker bike we've sold has moved immediately????
RESTORATION OVERVIEW
This SXT 125 was taken completely down to the bare frame and restored with uncompromising attention to detail:
Frame sandblasted, Professionally Painted and Cleared
3 coats of paint + 6 coats of clear on frame and tank
Wet-sanded and buffed to perfection
Fuel tank cleaned internally using Metal Rescue and acetone
Speedometer shows 1.7 miles since restoration
This is concours in the truest sense — every component is as good as or better than factory new.
CHROME & FINISHES
This bike features true triple chrome plating throughout:
Copper
Zinc
Chrome
Not “cleaned-up” chrome.
Not “10-foot” chrome.
This is best-available show chrome — the closer you look, the better it gets.
Footpegs chromed (even the AMF logos shine)
All original chrome fasteners professionally replated
Triple clamp painted correctly, bolts polished
Headstay restored
Shocks fully dismantled and rechromed
Swingarm finish is nothing short of artwork
WHEELS, BRAKES & SUSPENSION
Wheels fully dismantled
Hubs polished
Brake backing plate polished
Rims triple chrome plated
New spokes installed
Underside of fenders restored
Correct betor-stamped fork rubbers
All rubber components replaced
MECHANICAL RESTORATION
The engine was completely dismantled to the crankcases:
Crankcases cleaned and detailed and restored to new and painted
Transmission rebuilt
Clutch rebuilt and replaced
Cylinder freshly bored
New piston and rings
New base gasket and head gasket
Carburetor fully rebuilt
Airbox restored with new air filter
Exhaust sandblasted, restored and correctly refinished
Correct unpainted steel muffler outlet retained (a detail amateurs miss)
It starts easily, runs flawlessly, and performs exactly as a brand-new SXT should.
VISUAL IMPACT
The paint scheme is pure 1976 perfection:
Deep blue base
Five shades of blue throughout the pinstriping
White Harley-Davidson Tank Logo
Chrome everywhere
It's stunning, timeless, and unmistakably AMF-era Harley.
VALUE & COLLECTIBILITY
If you understand restorations, you know the reality:
150 hours of skilled shop labor minimum @ $150 Per Hour is $22,500
Chrome plating alone: thousands
Paint, parts, materials: thousands
Typical shop rate: $150/hr +
Easily a major five-figure build
Unlike a new motorcycle that depreciates the moment you sign paperwork, this one will continue to appreciate.
