Description
For sale is my well running 1941 Indian Sport Scout.
The 641 model was the last full‑year production of the V‑twin Scout design before Indian shifted to the 30.5 ci (500 cc) Scout in 1942.
The engine has been refreshed with new pistons and other parts. It starts quickly as shown in video and runs through the gears nicely. Non-Indian riders should be aware that these bikes did not have synchro gears. This was the first and last of the plunger rear end suspended Indian Sport Scouts. 1942 models are simply leftover 1941s as Indian devoted its production to the War effort. The bike has seen a few minor restorations in its life, including some backyard ones, such as painted wheels and spokes that could use some proper restoration. Needs a few fixes, such as speedometer cable needs to be attached (included). The tires look good but are old and need replacing. Paint on tank and fenders is in good to very good condition. Has original 6V electrical system with points/distributor ignition. A new (unfilled) original reproduction battery will be included. Has a rebuilt Linkert M642 carburetor. Has a new saddle. Included is the original chain cover (removed for maintenance of chain), a rare period leather mud flap, complete parts lists and period service manuals and other Indian resources, and valve cover pliers. Buyer must arrange pick-up within 7 days of auction close.
The engine casing has two numbers stamped on them. The one under rear cylinder matches with the frame and has the right prefix (FDA). However, I've owned 5 Indians and I believe these were stamped later in the bike's life as the font is not the usual Indian serial number font, and that the engine number is usually under the front cylinder. I can't guarantee these are original cases, and would guess the bike had factory replacement cases installed during a rebuild in its past. In any event, the engine is stamped as FDA1406, while the frame is 6411406.
