Description
This 1975 Kawasaki Z1 900 was acquired in 2018 as a project by the seller who subsequently carried out a restoration that consisted of disassembling the bike and rebuilding the air-cooled 903cc DOHC inline-four and five-speed transmission and refinishing the bodywork and frame.
Restoration was completed 2023 by Johnny's vintage motorcycles of Wadsworth Ohio. I have added photos of the restoration charges but the $16,907 does not include the new Delkevic exhaust and tank/side cover/tail paint cost of $4,600.
The carburetors, wheels, suspension, gauges, hand controls, and electronics were rebuilt and refurbished during the project. Features include chrome fenders, a two-up seat, a front disc brake, wire-spoke wheels, four Mikuni carburetors, an electric starter, and a four-into-four new stamped Delkevic exhaust system.
This Z1 900 is now offered with a clean Texas title in the seller's name.
Frame number is Z1F-72722 and engine number is Z1E-072965. 243 difference well within collectability range.
The bike was refinished in blue with black, yellow, and white stripes during the restoration, and the frame and other components were refinished in black.
Features include a 4.7-gallon fuel tank and a black two-up seat with a grab strap as well as a ducktail cowl, a chrome rear grab rail and fenders, folding passenger foot pegs, and both center and side stands Chrome wire-spoke wheels measuring 19″ front and 18″ rear were mounted with Dunlop tires. Suspension consists of a telescopic fork as well as a pair of shocks attached to the swingarm. Stopping power is provided by a front disc brake and a polished rear drum brake. The chrome handlebar fronts a Nippon Denso 160-mph speedometer and a matching tachometer with a 9k-rpm red line as well as a row of indicator lamps for turn signals, neutral gear selection, high beam, and oil pressure. The odometer was reset during the restoration, and it now shows 0 miles. The air-cooled 903cc DOHC inline-four was disassembled and rebuilt by the seller during the restoration which consisted of overhauling the crankcase, cylinder heads, carburetors, and transmission in addition to polishing the covers.
The seller notes that the motorcycle has not been started since the completion of the restoration and has been stored without fluids with the exception of crankcase oil so that it can be displayed or utilized for competitions.
This Z1 was fully tested by Johnny's Vintage motorcycles over a 95 mile testing span. Power is sent to the rear wheel via a five-speed transmission and a drive chain.
