Description
Laverda Alpino 1978 500cc
Restored to a beautiful condition.
Get into the Laverda scene for little money—a mint Jota 1000 will set you back up to £11,000.
This bike is rarer than a Jota or a 750 and worth all of £7,000—you won't find one as good anywhere.
This bike has undergone extensive restoration, including:
- Acid stripping of all major steel parts,
- Powder coating of the frame, swinging arm, etc.,
- Wheels stripped and powder-coated silver,
- Professionally resprayed orange bodywork to the highest standard with 3M Turbo lacquer: two coats on three base coats, then after stripes were applied, another four coats of lacquer. Finally, as all major refinishers do, it was rubbed down with 2000 wet or dry paper and polished to achieve a glass-like finish.
Other work includes:
- New fenders bought from Wolfgang Haerter, stripped of their original white paint, and re-chromed,
- Original Brembo brake pads, Brembo seals, swinging arm bushes, footrest rubbers, and grips (also from Wolfgang),
- New indicators,
- No MOT or tax, as I won't take it out in the rain, but believe me, it will have no issues passing,
- No expense spared,
- Brand new front discs,
- New Avon Roadrunner tyres,
- Seat re-covered,
- New Motobatt battery,
- Starts on the button,
- Clutch stripped and serviced—now works perfectly,
- Runs sweet,
- Exhausts in very good condition.
Anyone who has seen this bike in person can't believe how beautiful it is. If you don't like being the center of attention, don't buy this bike!
If you come to see it, you will buy it. Test rides are a pleasure—once I have the money in my hand.
The Nitty-Gritty
I'm not desperate to sell, though I can't ride it much due to my ill health.
I'd rather someone win shows with it—it could be transported by trailer, but that's not my scene. It should be ridden, although only in fine weather—it seems a shame to get a bike this good wet.
Quote from a motorcycle correspondent about the Laverda 500 in a Laverda book:
"So big bikes still ruled in my book. Then I rode the new Laverda 500 and had to revise my standards completely, because it proved to be the fastest thing from start to finish of any journey—save expressway traveling—I have ever ridden."
