Description
1956 Norton Dominator 99. 600cc buff log book. original reg. etc.
Here is a very genuine matching engine. frame & original registration example of the iconic 1950's Norton Dominator in 600cc “Wideline” form.
The bike starts easily (magneto rebuilt by Tony Cooper). It sounds superb. doesn't smoke or rattle and goes very well.
Handling as you would expect is brilliant. Brakes are good especially the front. Speedometer is working well. dynamo is charging well (new battery. new ammeter & new solid state regulator fitted).
Clutch is very light to operate. gears are positive and work well. This is a well sorted bike that just needs to be used and improved upon slightly here and there to make into a real cracker!
The bike comes with V5C registration document. registration number is the original WWJ 264 (which is transferable). There is also the original buff log book dating from 9th April 1956. (date of registration) The bike is pre-60 exempt for MOT and has historic class (free) road tax valid until November 2014.
Frame number is 67197 engine number is 67197 also. These are genuine factory stampings and match V5C & buff log!
This is a rare opportunity to obtain a matching eng / frame / reg. Dominator!
Cosmetically the bike is in very good but not pristine or show condition.
The paint on the frame is very good quality enamel. The paint on the tinware is good but looks as if the prep-work was not carried out to a very high level so there are dimples in the metal work that show up on the mudguards and the tank is a bit marked (may cut back ok).
The seat is as new. the exhaust is excellent also. The paint on the primary chaincase is not brilliant.
Front rim is a genuine Dunlop item. It has good lining but the lustre of the chrome has dulled. The rear rim has good chrome. good lining and is also a genuine Dunlop rim. Spokes & nipples front & rear are stainless. Front tyre is hardly used Avon Speedmaster ribbed. rear is Avon SMII.
There is no fin damage on the engine and it is nice & oil tight.
The centre stand is not brilliant. may need the stops welding up a bit. The sidestand also needs attention. although it's a bonus that it is even there because they are rarely to be found on Dommies!
All in all this is a rare and fantastic opportunity to own a genuine matching Dominator from the much sought after and distinctive wideline era.
Don't miss this genuine classic Norton 600cc Dominator with good history!
