Description
Hello, this was my fathers 1956 ES2 Norton and I threw it down the road in 1970, repaired the damage except it never got to be repainted before my brother threw it down the road and it just got put away in a shed and nothing done with it so it looks a bit sad.
The rego ran out in September 1970 so that's how long at least it's been sitting idle. The bike has matching frame and engine numbers.
The Engine is 68760 L4 and the frame number is L4 68760. As can be seen in the photo there could be another number before the frame number but it is too obscure to make out. The L denotes it as 1956 and the 4 is the model type ES2. It was very original except for the front mudguard and the horrible purple it was painted and the tank didn't have badges or knee pads.
The gearbox cycles through the gears ok but can't test it in action as the clutch cable is broken.
The forks go up and down ok, the rear suspension units go up and down, the wheels spin freely.
There is damage to the rear guard and number plate light holder, dents in the primary cover, bent left footrest, torn seat, right footrest broken off, tank is dented both sides, headlight shell dented, left headlight ear slight dent, front mudguard stay has slight bend. No parts have been removed from the bike over the years, so it has all the parts for as when it was registered except for the external damage.
The bike was also in a half hour TV show on the ABC, Peter Armstrong had to fall off it, but for the life of us we can't remember the name of the show. My brother took it over to the studios at Gore Hill. A bit of history.
The photos form a major part of the description so please study them carefully and don't hesitate to ask anything.
Bike is for local pickup only from Tea Gardens, NSW 2324. Of course you are free to arrange your own transport/courier. Oh it also has a flat front tyre. Thanks for looking.
