Description
For sale is my 1956 Norton 99 600cc Café Racer.
I bought this bike in 2010 off a friend of mine who is an aircraft engineer. He built it from the ground up.
He completely rebuilt the engine, which has Superblend main bearings. The crank has been reground with new shells, a fast road cam, and a rebuilt gearbox. The dynamo and magneto were also rebuilt, and he fabricated the primary chain guard.
The front wheel is from a 1972 Suzuki GT750 Kettle with a four-leading-shoe front brake. It has fully adjustable clip-ons and Dunstall rear sets, an electronic regulator, a dry-cell battery, a halogen headlight, and a new wiring loom. The bike also features a central alloy oil tank. I have just fitted a new primary and rear chain.
The engine has done about 2,000 miles since the rebuild and runs smoothly—quite quick for an old bike, as proven by a couple of fast runs up to the Ace Café and two weeks on the Isle of Man for the last Manx Grand Prix.
This bike is tax and M.O.T. exempt but currently has a valid M.O.T.
The only bad point:
The long-range fiberglass fuel tank has been affected by ethanol fuel, but it is still usable at present.
I will add more details about this bike later.
Cash on collection. I will happily meet you at any of the ferry ports on the island—Fishbourne, East Cowes, or Yarmouth.
This bike is also advertised locally on the island.
