Description
Here we have a very rare and early HRD Rapide project.
Engine Number is F10AB/1/302
Crank case numbers C100
Rear Frame Member Number R2301
I have managed to locate two HRD machines manufactured pretty much directly either side of this one:
1. See Bonhams Las Vegas 9th January 2014 Auction. Lot 333 1947 Vincent HRD Rapide Frame Number R2312. Engine Number F10AB/1/313 - therefore manufactured 12 machines AFTER this one. also note engine/frame sequence is Engine Number + 1999 = Frame Number (also note reserve of $120. 00-$150. 00 and incorrectly stamped UFM!).
2. See Bonhams Las Vegas 12 January 2012 Auction. Lot 276 1947 Vincent HRD Rapide Frame Number R2287. Engine Number FA10AB/1/288 - therefore manufactured 14 machines BEFORE this one. also note incorrect forks. as Bramptons should be fitted.
As you can see. the above two machines are located in the US. In actual fact. my HRD was imported from the US around 6 years ago and reference to it being in the US can be found on various references on the internet (Google "Vincent Rapide Basket Case Jockey Club"). Here you will find references to the bike being found in an attic in a Victorian house in California and then sold around 2008.
There is therefore considerable provenance to point to this bike being part of a batch of HRD's that were exported to the USA in 1947.
What else can I tell you.
The tank has been professionally sprayed and is absolutely mint.
The Brampton forks have also been totally refurbished.
Speedo is correct - Smiths 433/3/L.
There are no documents with this bike but this should not create too much of a problem. as you would at the very least be able to obtain an age related plate with the help of the VOC. or at the very best you may be able to reclaim the original plate. if it was ever registered in the UK.
The UFM is unstamped.
I also have the original HRD front stand assembly - not shown in the photos but it comes with the bike.
Sadly. there is some fire damage to the timing side crank case. Definitely repairable. especially as both halves of the cases match.
The RFM on the very early models were unusual in that the brake cable holder casting was on the left down tube and it also had straight damper holders.
I would say the bike is around 80% complete. most of the missing parts are minor parts and easy to purchase from the VOC.
This is a great project bike. Due to the fact that it is such an early and rare matching numbers HRD Rapide this will fetch £45. 00 once fully restored.
My price therefore is not cheap but is reflective if what I think is a fair price but is also less than what I could achieve for all the parts separately.
Strictly cash or bank transfer only - no paypal.
No messers.
Willing to consider part exchange for other British Bikes.
This is a piece of British motorcycling history and rarely available at this price.
