Description
OK. a bit of a missive. I'm having a re-sort of my collection and have decided to sell most of my British jun…err. classic collectable motorcycles! This ultra rare and beautiful Interceptor was brought over from the USA in 2008 and not registered. I have old MOT's dating back until then ( he kept intending to do it). I bought it 18 months ago and its now on the road. The recorded mileage at import was forty miles ( that's 40). It's now about 450. This machine is almost completely original and in totally unrestored condition ( apart from replacement Amal Concentric carbs. fitted in the USA. I think the others must have been gummed up). Some of the silencer chrome has faded a little. some of the bolt heads are a touch dull. the frame paint is a little thin in spots. All I have done is change the tyres and service it. fitting a new battery. ALL the cables are factory originals. as are the amal grips. the switches. unmolested wiring loom. saddle etc. It really is in astonishing condition for a bike nearly fifty years old. It has original spokes laced to perfect Dunlop England rims etc. etc. This is really one to keep. but I've run out of room and needs must when the wife demands. In the photographs I've tried to highlight the small dent in the RHS silencer and the small crease in the top of the tank. where the oaf of a previous owner ( let us call him a FI!) clouted it against the handlebar clamp. It's not bad. its just there. A pattern silencer is forty quid. but then it wouldn't be original. innit. All I plan to do if it stays is to have the optional top stripe on the tank painted on ( instead of a transfer) and I'd make it 1/4" wider to allow me to fill the ding on the top. It's no big deal. but I don't want to fit a pattern tank. although they're quite good now. Looking at the bike. how likely is it that the mileage is correct? Unlikely. I'd say. but possible. A couple of the bolt heads have had spanners on them. but…. the bike runs perfectly. with no smoke. starts easily and is unmolested. I really don't think its ever been touched mechanically. My best guess is that the speedo must have broken and a replacement fitted.
This machine was featured in RealClassic Magazine last year. a copy of which comes with the bike. I did pop it onto another site last week and had a viewing a couple of days ago. Let me share the story. Keen buyer person arrived with know-it- all friend who was quick to point out that it isn't a new bike; no sh*t Sherlock. It became obvious that keen buyer person really wanted a restored or new machine with any history obliterated entirely and the earth it stood on salted. I know we'd entered a dark place when K. I. A. said " hmm. there's wear on the rear sprocket". So. IF you're the sort of person that's expecting my Inter to look like a new Hinckley Bonneville (ugh). you'd be disappointed.
On the other hand. if you are a glutton for punishment and insist on riding British bikes. this is one of the best unrestored examples you're ever likely to come across. It runs perfectly and I can ride it into town. where I work. It idles. there's no smoke. it charges. the gears work. the clutch neither drags nor slips and there are NO PATTERN PARTS. Did I mention its original? It has new tyres. tubes. battery and has had all the fluids changed. including the fork oil. It's a very cool bike and very fast. It is numbers matching. known to the Enfield OC and recorded on the register. I even have details of precisely when it was made and despatched to the USA and to whom it went. very cool. IT really would be a crime to even consider 'restoring' this machine.
This is your one chance to buy one of the rarest British bikes of the post-war era and probably the most beautiful. It absolutely flies and has been 100% reliable. I will only be advertising this once; I'm fully aware of what I have and know that its value is going to appreciate significantly. If it's too dear. or there's insufficient indian made pattern parts and powder coat for you. feel free to look for another one for sale. Oh. hang on. there isn't! My advertised price is very close to the money I will require for it. I'm in West London. near Kempton. You can ride it home or I can recommend a man with a van if you'd rather have it delivered. If you've always wanted one of these. this represents just about your only chance to actually buy one. Act now. or repent at leisure!
