Moto Rumi Tipo Sport

I have owned this scooter for more than 10 years during which time it has been completely rebuilt. I tried to keep it as original as possible and replaced or refurbished parts only where necessary. The following parts have been replaced:

Handlebars (stainless steel).
Levers and grips.
Lighting/horn control switch (the one fitted is a new and unused original pattern).
Headlight assembly.
Leg shields. The original units were manufactured from steel and I made replacements fabricated from 3mm thick aluminium plate.
Leg shield protection strips.
Rear light lens.
Petrol filler cap.
All wiring and control cables.

The dual seat. chrome leg shield bars. gear change lever. kick start and foot brake are all original and have not been refinished. All the cast aluminium body parts are original as are the wheels and most of the nuts and bolts. The bike is in completely standard trim but I fitted a battery operated stop light to meet MOT requirements. The bike was professionally painted in two pack ivory paint.

The engine was stripped and rebuilt by a Rumi Club technical specialist. The crank was balanced and all bearings replaced. Also. and importantly for these machines. the gearbox was properly shimmed and set up and all four gears select easily. To put it in a nutshell. everything that needed to be replaced or refurbished was done. The engine internals. particularly the original bores. showed little wear.

The scooter was commissioned in August 2012 and I have to admit that I needed the help of another Rumi Club specialist to get it going.

He and I rode the machine and it was taken for and passed an MOT test. Everything worked as it should and it rode well.

Since then. the machine has not been out of the garage. Ongoing problems with my knees have made it very difficult for me to use the kick starter and I am unable to run with the bike to bump start it. Also. the proximity of the gear change and rear brake make it a bit problematic for me to ride (the knees problem again and probably the fact that I am not getting any younger). Realizing that I will not use it I have decided to sell. hopefully to an enthusiast.

A little fettling will be necessary to get it to start more easily but it is in first class order.

I have the original buff logbook which shows that the Rumi was first registered on 15 September 1961. The third and last registered owner prior to me. bought it on 5 September 1967. Sometime after that the bike went into hibernation.

The scooter carries its original non transferrable registration number. The MOT certificate expired on 27 August 2013 and it is presently on a SORN.

If you know anything about Rumi scooters you will know that these machines are very rare indeed. especially the Tipo Sport model.

The design is unique and iconic and they seldom come up for sale.
