Description
This bike has undergone a complete mechanical and electrical restoration which was completed in the spring of 2011. Since that time it has been used on a regular basis during the summer months and has been a pleasure to ride as well as a regular crowd puller. The engine and gearbox were restored by a well known Edinburgh based Indian specialist and the rest of the bike by a retired professional engineer with no regard to either time or expence. Every single part. both mechanical and electrical. has been dis-assembled inspected and overhauled as necessary. Visually the bike is 99% origional. however several modifications have been made to improve safety. reliability and riding pleasure. The cylinders have been bored to increase the cubic capacity from 500cc to 600cc (thus increasing the compression ratio) and oversize valves have been fitted. New pistons were supplied by Jerry Greers Engineering. an Indian specialist based in the U. S. A. Jerry Greers also supplied a King Clutch which. by reducing clutch drag. provides silent selection of first gear from neutral and also smooth gear changing. The final drive ratio has been adjusted to lower the engine speed to take into account the increased power output from the engine. A new Mikuni carburettor has been fitted using ethanol proof fuel hoses and petrol taps etc. This gives both easy starting and economic operatrion. In order to improve reliability the rotor arm and distributor cap have been replaced by a dual coil wasted spark system. This modification prevents electrical tracking on the surface of the distributor cap during wet weather. The origional dynamo chain drive has been replaced by a toothed drive belt and the dynamo itself converted for 12volt operation. The charging rate is controlled by a modern solid state voltage regulator in order to cure the origional problem of boiling the battery. The twin rear lights have been fitted with very bright L. E. D. displays to increase daytime riding safety. The headlamp has been fitted with a pre-focus Quartz Halogen bulb. A side stand (or 'Jiffy' stand) has been fitted. This is a rare oportunity to acquire a fully sorted machine which is ready to give years of reliable service. The reason for selling ? Well this bike has been replaced by another Indian of course !The bike is registered as a Historic Vehicle and as such is exempt from both road tax and M. O. T. testing.
