Description
This is a Sunbeam model 9 series 2 600cc. I have the original buff log book which shows the bike was first registered 28/3/1938. The engine and frame are the originals. The bike still carries the original registration number. I have owned it since 2007. there are only 5 registered keepers in total. I have the original owners handbook for the machine which is tatty and also a second copy in better condition. I will include in the sale a couple of workshop manuals. The tax disc expires at the end of August. I have 4 previous MOTs. the last of which expired October 2013 but there is now no requirement for an MOT for this vehicle.
The machine is original and complete. The rear chain is not fully enclosed but I believe that was an option by 1938. There is no side stand. I'm not sure if this was optional or standard. The rear and front stands are both OK. The horn is old and probably original but I don't believe it is in the correct location. The cosmetic condition of the machine is best described as good oily rag. the paint on all the tin-ware. frame and tank is a certainly not perfect but serviceable. There is no serious rust. The rear number plate and light are new. Both seats were re-covered by R. K. Leighton. The colour scheme (ie. black. black and more black) is. as far as I'm aware. correct. the only chromed items being the exhaust. push rod tubes and control levers.
Mechanically the bike is in good condition. It was my intention to sort out this side of things and then do a cosmetic restoration but for various reasons I only ever completed phase 1. Extensive mechanical work has been carried out. I will itemise this but it may be easier to contact me if you want to know more. I have receipts for most of the work. The bottom end of the engine and the piston and bore are all in good condition. The top end of the engine has been completely overhauled much of the work being done by Chris Odling. a name well known to Sunbeam enthusiasts. There are new valves. guides. springs and collets. new tappet adjusters. new inlet valve oil feed quill and new stainless head bolts machined to correctly position the rocker box. The valve seats were re-ground. Further work carried out by Chris Odling includes. manufacture of a new oil pump drive gear. refurbishment of cam followers. replacing the original de-compressor with a valve lifter acting on the exhaust rocker. supplying replacement exhaust cam. In addition. the carburetor has been refurbished by Martin Bratby and the magneto re-conditioned by Tony Cooper. The exhaust was replaced (Armour). The rear wheel bearing assembly was replaced and bearings converted to sealed ball races. the work was carried out by a local engineering company. I have no receipt for this but have got the old parts. The timing side adjustable foot rest mounts were replaced. the footrest rubbers are new. various cables and the throttle twist grip were replaced. The push rod tubes were re-chromed.
I may have forgotten a few things. if I think of anything else I will amend the listing. If you want to know more. please contact me and ask.
I wold prefer cash payment on collection.
Thanks for looking.
