Description

1937 Rudge Whitworth 500cc Special with Steib 501s sidecar for reluctant sale.

The bike was originally restored to a concours standard in 1977 by my late father and has been lovingly cherished and looked after ever since. As a consequence. it now has the appearance of an original / unmolested bike in excellent original condition. The sidecar was also originally restored in the late 70's by my Dad and has recently undergone a full professional respray / refurb due to the usual wear & tear of a family sidecar. This bike was regularly used by my parents since the late 70's on numerous classic & vintage motorcycle club runs. not to mention regular trips to the Isle of Man. John O'Groats and Europe. She never misses a beat. bless her. If you have been in the vintage bike circles for any length of time you will no doubt know this outfit and most probably my late father. He had many Rudges. in amongst various other brit classics over the years. He may have even made parts for you.

The bike currently runs a 600cc motor. of which my father (a master engineer / toolmaker by trade) achieved by throwing the crank and stroking it. This was always something he had wanted to do to a Rudge engine. in order to give it the extra grunt to help with pulling the chair (Not that a Rudge engine needs it. you understand). The original 500cc Special motor is still as the day it was removed from the bike (complete with road dirt. grease and all) and shall be sold with the bike for the sake of originality. The bike has all original and genuine frame and engine numbers and the V5 states that the original date of registration was Feb 1937.

I have numerous other Rudge parts to sell separately. most for 1937 onwards models and some for earlier models. The parts include for instance a complete / immaculate 'Ulster' engine. not to mention another 500cc 'Special' head. rocker cover. barrel. piston and crankcases and pretty much everything that you would need to build another complete engine. I would be interested to clear everything Rudge that I have. if of course the price was right. Please be aware though. that it is just the '1937 Rudge Whitworth 500cc Special (600cc engine installed + the original 500cc engine included) with the Steib 501s sidecar' that is pictured. of which is for sale.

A purchase would be secured by a £100.00 deposit via PayPal. with the balance being paid in cash on collection. Buyer to collect only (I'm based in South Beds / North Herts and the outfit is located in North London).

Please be advised that this motorcycle and sidecar outfit is advertised elsewhere.
