1971 Norton Commando Long Range

Although the first Commando appeared in late 1967. The early Commandos proved to have weak frames and the design was soon modified with an extra bracing tube to the headstock which solved the problem. A restyling exercise in 1970 saw the Fastback Mk. all with upswept exhausts and reverse cone pipes replacing the Atlas-type ones that were used up to that point. Only four months later. the Mk. III arrived on the scene with several changes including a modified centre and side stands and a wider section front tyre. The Mk. IV in January 1972 brought a front disc brake and direction indicators but production ceased in early 1973.

The Fastback Long Range is a rarely-seen variant which was only in production for two years from early 1971. It is estimated that only 400 or so were made during that time with a good number apparently being exported to Australia. The machine was virtually identical to the Fastback model of the same era except for the larger capacity Atlas-style petrol tank of a shape similar to that fitted to the old Slimline Featherbed frame models. The colour choices for the tank were red or green. The dual seat was minus the side wings as fitted to the regular Fastback. This particular Long Range is offered in very good original and un-restored condition with the red Atlas tank colour scheme and duel seat. Offered with V5 Registration certificate and at a very reasonable estimate.
