Description
Sunbeam S8 1952 500cc Shaft Drive Motorcycle
This is a lovely Sunbeam S8. It has not been spoilt by being over restored or modified. It is in very good condition but also has a nice patina of age. as you can see from the photos.
I think that the only up grade is the Stewart Engineering breather on the rocker box.
The mudguards have both been re-sprayed but it seemed a shame to spray the tank. If anything. the frame could do with a re-spray but it is not rusty or damaged in any way.
The engine has a new solid copper head gasket fitted which has stopped the ‘standard' Sunbeam oil leak.
New compression and oil scraper rings. The bores are in very good condition.
New big-end bearings. The mains and crank are in good condition.
The rear worm drive is in good condition and has plenty of life left in it. These are very expensive if you are new to Sunbeams.
The ratio is for solo use (very important to keep the revs down unless you want to fit a side-car).
The dynamo and mechanical regulator work well.
The exhaust is not damaged (many have been).
The engine starts well and is a real pleasure to ride.
The motorcycle comes with the original Sunbeam instruction manual. Pitman's service manual. old tax discs. old MOT certificates and the receipts for the recent engine parts.
MOTs are not required and road tax is free of charge of course.
I had no intention of selling this Sunbeam. which I have had for almost 8 years but while rebuilding the engine (which has now been well tested and run-in) I picked up an S7 Deluxe. Any questions please email via Motorcycles-for-sale.
