Description
500 Norvin or Vinton project:
Here is a very rare (the last?) chance to get hold of that iconic café racer. the Norvin. at sensible money. This bike is especially rare because it was built in the early sixties and registered as a ‘Vinton' at that time.
The spec is as follows:
Chassis
Wideline Norton featherbed frame
Short Roadholder forks
Dunlop alloy rims on full width Norton hubs
Long circuit fibreglass petrol/oil tank
Manx seat
Clip-ons
All the chassis parts are in very useable condition but need stripping and repainting. The seat has a scuff in the fabric. There is no brake pedal. kick-starter and no electrics. There are front engine plates but no rears. The front mudguard is the wrong type but could be made to fit with a small bracket. All parts are loosely assembled only and a set of new fasteners will be needed. There is a new exhaust pipe and an old Vincent silencer (not shown in the pictures).
Engine/transmission
Vincent Comet 500cc engine 1951 - Series C.
1 1/8” Amal carb (Black Shadow size) and float chamber
Vincent primary and gearbox
The engine is only loosely assembled. There is a crank. rod & piston in the engine. which turns over freely. The barrel is in good condition and on standard bore size. The valve gear has been removed and along with the primary drive. is in a separate box. There are no cams present and most of the cover screws are missing. Other than that the engine looks complete. but I am not a Vincent expert so I cannot guarantee this. Obviously the complete power unit will need to be fully rebuilt.
The bike was built and registered as a 1000cc Vinton in 1964. (The DVLA will need to be informed that it now has a 500cc engine). The modern V5C is present as well as the original 60s log book and the interim blue and white V5. The bike still has a 1964 tax disc with the word Vinton on it! This makes the bike as close as you can get to a ‘genuine' sixties café racer and could even be described as an 'original' Norvin/Vinton. Once rebuilt. it will be so much more interesting than the hordes of identikit Tritons outside the Ace café. Google 500 Norvin images to see just how good it will look.
I will ship overseas but all costs must be covered by the buyer. Viewing is available at any time and is recommended. No scammers, test riders or transfers from West African bank accounts. Obviously funds must be cleared before collection.
If you own a white silk scarf. a Lewis leather and have even the makings of a quiff. it's time to cash in that ISA and live the dream.
I have just found a very nice brand new alloy central oil tank (Manx type) which will be included in the sale
