Description
1954 Norton Manx. 500cc -matching engine / frame & gearbox
Here's a bike that needs no introduction! The World's greatest production racer - the Norton Manx.
This example has had a lot spent on it but was never reassembled due to ill health.
According to the previous owner this bike was raced by Hugh Anderson the former New Zealand World champion. It was discovered a few years back in need of restoration.
The engine (now converted to 500cc) and gearbox were rebuilt by Anthony Edwards son of Charlie Edwards the Norton works mechanic of the early 50's Golden “Geoff Duke” period.
The frame number is J10 M2 56359 (56 is obscured by a hole). engine number is J10 M2 56359. gearbox number is EN355N - G9 424. These numbers match the factory despatch records. The bike left Bracebridge Street on 18th February 1954. we could not decipher the hand writing stating where it was sent. it looks like “V&H M&A. ”
Frame is stove enamelled to high standard and is very good.
Tank has been professionally resprayed to very good standard.
Wheels are excellent. Dunlop front rim Borrani rear. Stainless spokes & New Avon Road Rider tyres. The engine turns freely and feels great. The main engine plates are missing. The oil tank looks a bit worse for wear.
Conical Smith's rev counter is there it probably needs refurb.
This is a terrific and very rare opportunity to rebuild a matching number 500cc Manx which doesn't need too much spending to complete.
Don't miss this Classic Racer!
