Description
BSA Bantam.
I purchased this back in March 2012 to use on the Isle of Man for that years classic TT (Manx) I've got a couple of big modern bikes and there was 12 of us going all having small BSA's etc. so needed some thing more suitable.
The bike is very original having only covered 7712 mile from new. I believe this to be genuine as there is a few old mots in a folder and one is from 28/5/82 recording mileage @ 5830. Also in the folder of paperwork is a list of owners from 1983.
All original panels. no dents. side panels and tank have had paint at some point but mudguards look original. All correct wipac parts (switches. dip/horn switch. both lights and stop switch) Correct original throttle/ front brake lever assembly ( one unit not two separate parts ) Original Amal concentric carb. Original dealer transfer on the fork leg. Matching engine and frame numbers. The engine was rebuilt when I first got it due to being difficult to start. New parts fitted as follows @ 6660 miles. piston ( still on standard size bore ) all bearings. all seals and gaskets. rear change spring. cam plate spring. all clutch plates and primary chain. All parts from Rex Caunt racing covered 1100 miles since. Bike has been converted to 12v with new alternator and modern reg/retifier unit before I got it. At the same time I got both wheels rebuilt at Central wheel components due to the state of the original rims. Stainless rims and spokes used. hubs skimmed. blased and powder coated (receipt for £560) plus two new Metezler me22 tyres used. One point to note the coating on the hubs has become crazed due to the drums getting hot ( difficult to get a photo) this has not bothered me but hubs would need redoing to be mint. New parttern exhaust fitted aswell. Current V5c in my name.
As new rules new owner will need to tax it but free as historic vehicle. Ok to sum up the bike original bantam not mint (paint work and chrome over 40 years old) but useable that has had a mechanical restoration. Selling due to not being used much. Cash on collection. Any questions please ask. Thanks for looking. Item is located in Ipswich Suffolk. UK sale only.
Bike was ridden today and MOT'ed. One advisory that has been given is - Roller brake test indicates slight fluctuation of brake effort rear brake. This is something that I haven't noticed on the road but did show up slightly on gauge when on the brake rollers. I have a spare rear hub that will be included in the sale.
