Harley-Davidson 1964 FLH UN-RESTORED !
Original barn find. She was found in a barn in 1987 by my brother Bob. He was tragically taken in an unfortunate happening in 1988. The bike was given to me in exchange for paying funeral expenses. Here is what we had to do to get it road worthy. The original owner did not use lay up oil and it was stored in the barn in a very shitty way with 3001 miles on it. We had to do a valve job and new pistons and rings. We pulled it apart to clean all the chicken shit and barn residue off.
The frame showed signs of possible corrosion so we had the frame stripped and powder coated. I have the original pistons that are still usable. The only things I have done besides that is to keep it roadworthy. I have the original Goodyear Super Eagle 100's tires from the factory. It has Goodyear Speed Grips on it now that are not dry rotted at all. I replaced the clutch, clutch hub but not the basket, and primary chain. Master cylinder, generator, voltage regulator battery ect. I had to have the speed indicator needle fixed for Pa state inspection. It fell off and was basically junk but the mileage is accurate and working. I have a box of extra parts a friend gave me that you can have. Now here is the dilemma. I injured my kicker leg several years ago and it has been sitting for those same several years. I can no longer kick her over. Since this is the last year 6 volt kick start Harley ( If you are looking and know the bike you already know that ). It is all the original 6 volt system. I have had to fix some of the wiring to keep it on the road.
I will do my best to answer all question to SERIOUS BUYERS. I am hoping for a serious collector who will give my girl a good home. It has never been wrecked all sheet metal and paint is all factory in as is original condition and paint has never been touched up. The rims have some pitting and the primary cover has had surface rust that I just kept up with and kept it as clean as possible. The seat was junk from the barn and the one on it is off of a 68 Electra Glide that was recovered. I do not have the original seat anymore. I gave it to my late brothers son as a memento. The original owner sprayed some kind of cleaner on the left side of the windshield and stained it.
THE PROBLEM : I was going to sell her at Sturgis this year. I cleaned her up got it running, put about 10 miles on her and she developed an electrical problem. I picked up a short somewhere. I kinda traced it to either a bulb socket or a switch. I'm just not sure. I have a new wiring harness, ignition switch, terminal block that I was going to get into but I have always struggled with taking away from the originality. I even spent 600 bucks on a new 6 volt generator with the built in regulator to bring up my low voltage at an idle. BUT I have never been able to install any of it as I couldn't bring myself to take away from her originality. Compression is awesome cases have never been apart, I also noticed the Linkert is seeping at the bowl gasket.
Email me for any questions or more detailed pics. I want my old sweetheart to go to a good home. I will deliver anywhere in the U.S. if you pay the expenses. I have an enclosed trailer and I am semi retired.
Be sure you know what you want. Bike is sold as is.
