Description
So this is a very unique Knucklehead. This bike was built in 1957 and titled as such, which is how it was done back then, stamped a vin on the cases by Highway Patrol and titled. The guy rode it until he sold it in 1971 to the old guy I got it from who's had it for nearly 50 years until now. The cases may have been over the counter replacement cases, not sure, I haven't checked to see if there are any belly numbers yet. I will also look to see what date code is on the trans and post it when I know.
She is built with a 1942 74" FL Knucklehead motor, original 48-52 Panhead Wishbone frame, Panhead Hydro-Glide front end, Ratchet Top 4 speed with foot shift, Mousetrap clutch, Star Hub wheels, Mechanical brakes front and rear. The older guy smoothed out the neck and seat area back in the 70's but never cut the neck. You can see the casting numbers on the axle mounts that read XE-6. Side car mounts are still intact. He brazed a panel between the 2 Panhead tanks to make them 1, filled in the fuel shut off and tank shift holes. It appears he cut the seat pivot and maybe the tank mounts, I haven't gotten that far in it yet.
He's 76 years old and hasn't ridden the bike in more than 10 years from what he can remember, he said she ran great so while it's up for sale I'll be cleaning out the tanks, fuel lines and carb, change the oil, I have a new 6v battery and I'll put some fire in the hole. The motor itself is clean with a M35 Linkert carb and doesn't appear the have any broken fins and the diving boards on the heads appear to be in original condition. I took a picture of what appears to be a professional repair on the generator mount down low and top of the rear motor mount area, see photos.
Regardless if I get this old girl running or not, I'm sure I will, she will be up for sale and some lucky buyer will get a true Ol School Knucklehead untouched since the 70's. Free and clear original 1971 title. I will post more details as they become relevant.
UPDATE: GOOD NEWS, THE BELLY NUMBERS MATCH 42-1329 (see photos of left and right case). SO THIS MOTOR IS A 1942 AND NOT A 1946 AS I HAD PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED IN THE LISTING. ALSO I JUST POSTED THE CASTING NUMBERS ON THE TRANS, I BELIEVE IT'S A TYPE 4.
