Description
Vary rare 1927 Indian Big Chief 74 cubic inch (1200cc) engine only in very good condition with clear title ready to be transferred in to your name. Cases & cam cover are are excellent with flawless baffles & oil scrapers, cylinders are very good, heads are good. Camshafts and cam followers are nice, idler gears & pinion teeth are all great, oil pump is complete & free, compression release is all there, tappets fit well in the guides, crank rolls over freely, there is play in the connecting rod big ends, pistons are both there, rear piston is split up the back, but these are in good enough shape to replicate, none of the rings are broken. Rear piston is marked "15", which I assume means it is 0.015" over standard bore. Front cylinder bore measures @3.260" at the spigot, rear cylinder bore measures @ 3.257" at the spigot. Piston-to-wall fit is good, but you're probably going to want to cut another 0.015" off those cylinders to clean them up. The grooving in both of them is not remarkably deep. There is only one set of valves, but they fit nicely in both cylinders' guides. Valve springs & valve spring covers are missing. All threads are good. Comes with rare Linkert M-21 carburetor (1-1/16") in original nickel plating with 2-bolt carb cover flange. M-21 is generally for 1930-1933 Harley-Davidson VL 74", but will run great on the Big Chief. If you want the engine without the carb, I'll buy it back after. Super hard to find these, they don't come up often. I'm taking it to a swap meet this weekend, so hit buy-it-now... I'm going to sell it to whomever commits first. I listed my 1930 Chief last week, & it sold buy-it-now within hours of listing. $240 flat shipping in continental USA. I will ship worldwide, but cannot estimate shipping to foreign postal codes. I can deliver to Daytona Bike Week.
