Description
1975 Norton 850 Commando custom survivor.
Built in the middle 1980's by “Specialized Motorcycles Inc.” out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
It has spent most of its existence in private collections since it was built and has very low miles. Like all “Specialized Motorcycles“ full custom builds, no expense was spared. Only the finest and state of the art components were used.
Previous owner stated that this highly custom build started with New Old Stock engine cases (never stamped) and all components were either new, or custom one-off hand made parts.
The bike comes with a clean Michigan title, frame and title serial numbers matching as they should. Engine was said to be bored oversized with high compression pistons, extensive cylinder head work done with oversized valves, and has an aftermarket camshaft. Also has an aftermarket Lockhart oil cooler. Fuel is delivered by twin Mikuni carbs and a 2 into 1 exhaust system is muffled by a Supertrapp muffler (sounds great!) Has battery-less Lucas points type ignition with blue capacitor. High-octane race gas is recommended. It runs very good and has lots of torque as you would expect from a high performance Commando.
Transmission is a 1974 right side shift 4 - Speed.
Bodywork consists of a real Dunstall road race fiberglass gas tank and an Airtech fiberglass seat / box tail section. Gas tank has been professionally sealed with Caswell “Dragons Blood” epoxy sealer to prevent any damage to the fiberglass. Oil tank is a tig-welded aluminum work of art and holds a gallon of oil.
Many parts are custom machined anodized aluminum to make this Norton as light as possible.
All paint is still in very good condition with only minor flaws and scratches. Paint on the frame is metallic brown to match the bodywork and still shines.
Wheels are 18” (front and rear) anodized aluminum Akront's with dry rotted Pirelli Phantom tires. Hubs are rare “knock-off” race style units and look great. Most of the brake components are early 1980's Yamaha XJ750, and the rear master cylinder is a Grimeca racing unit. Norton "Roadholder" front forks have “Forking by Frank” tubes and rear shocks are “Works” brand.
Bike is located in Las Vegas/Henderson - I am listing this bike for a friend of mine and so it is best to call the phone number for more details thank you.
