Description
This motorcycle was bought brand new in 1946 by my Father in Law when he was demobbed after the war. It was used as his sole vehicle for work and pleasure for some years and at times had a side-car attached to carry his family. Eventually he was able to afford a car so the bike was used for pleasure only. I have known this bike for 50 years and have ridden it many times in my earlier life. This bike has not been ridden for over 30 years as my father in law collected motorcycles and owned 8 at the time of his death in 1988. His son then registered it in his name with the intention to restore it and for insurance purposes. It was kept in a garage but he wasn't able to get round to doing the restoration before moving to live overseas. It was passed on to me in 2013 to either restore or sell. I have been given complete ownership of this bike. My own sons have no interest in inheriting the bike and therefore. as I prefer more modern machines. I feel that the bike would benefit from being owned by someone with a passion for old classic bikes. When I received the bike the engine started on the 3rd kick after being stored for all that time.
The condition of the bike is that the chassis. forks. engine and gearbox are all in fair condition. The magneto is fully functioning but the dynamo is missing. The tyres are holding air but their age says that they will need to be replaced if the bike is to be ridden. The brakes will obviously need fully servicing. The speedometer is missing. as is the primary chain case. which was removed by my father in law. The front mudguard is a '60's' alloy thing in an effort to make it look sportier! The silencer he added is a 'Brooklyns' can. for the same reason. The rear mudguard has been shortened. All of which can be seen on the photographs. There is no rot on any of the steel.
