Description
1958 BSA A10 GOLDEN FLASH, EXCELLENT RUNNER, ORIGINAL ENG, FRAME ® Here is a lovely example of probably the best all round classic British Bike - the BSA A10 “Golden Flash”. This is a very nicely turned out example in excellent running order with mechanically quiet engine & no smoke. It starts first kick and soon settles down to a lovely tick-over. Riding the bike is spot on also. Excellent smooth acceleration, great handling and superb brakes front & rear. Gearbox and clutch are both spot on also. The bike was restored / recommissioned by Magpie Motorcycles of Coventry some 13 years ago and it has been in single ownership ever since having covered just a few hundred miles per year in that time. I can't really describe the bike another way than it feels perfect to ride, almost how you would imagine a new one to have felt! It is nice lively example and really pulls like a train. Smith's 120mph speedometer is working well, also the electrics are all spot on, good charge well regulated with good lights and horn. This is a useable machine ideal for classic motorcycling events and general purpose leisure riding. As well as the up to date V5C doc the bike comes with its original 1958 buff log book which proves the bike still has its original engine to frame. Frame number is FA7.5395, engine number is DA10 2918 these are original factory stampings on the bike and both numbers match both the docs. (Original) registration number VCR 417 cannot be transferred to another vehicle. Date of registration is 02/05/1958 The bike is currently registered as a Historic Vehicle therefore road tax is free of charge and the bike is of course MOT exempt. The original Instruction Manual is with the bike. Cosmetically the bike is very clean and tidy. Highly presentable for a used and useable machine. It is not as new or concours or showroom, just extremely nice authentic looking. The enamel on the frame is in good order but is just a standard quality of finish not a high-gloss. Tin-ware generally has very good enamelling, not as new, just very good, very presentable used. Tank has excellent chrome on sides and looks good inside. (May have been internally lined with a red-oxide coating or this may be just overspray from when the tank was primed?!) All looks sound anyway. Front rim is a Dunlop original in very good condition, but there is some minor flecking in the chrome here and there but hardly noticeable. Front spokes are 'old-school' original dull so called rustless (cad plated) type. Nipples are good. Front tyre is a hardly used Avon SM ribbed. Rear rim is also a genuine Dunlop also with good clean original type spokes & nipples. Chrome on rim is excellent just off perfect. Rear tyre is a hardly worn Avon SM MKII. On the engine there is one very small chip to the top fin of the barrel on the drive side (hardly noticeable). The barrel itself is possibly an earlier type as it has smaller fins than usual. The engine is very oil tight. Exhaust system is in excellent condition and the seat is good. Centre stand is a really good one as is the sidestand. All in all, this is a really superb BSA A10. A big beefy British twin with bags of smooth, torquey, “low-down” power and that fantastic big British bike exhaust note which you just can't beat!
