Description
I've had this bike for a good few years now and have spent quite a lot of money on it. Both magneto and dynamo have been refurbished and a Wassell carb fitted. Not entirely impressed with the Wassell apart from its price. I still have the original 276 and if I was keeping the bike I would have it refurbished. It's part of the sale. Before the winter the front brake was relined and new fork seals fitted. Front brake is now good.
Rims and tyres are ok but tyres may need replacing in the fullness of time due to age.
I fitted a Morgo pump some years ago and the original is also available. All clutch parts have been replaced and the action is good. Chains were replaced at the same time. New wheel bearings in the back: front seems fine. When I first got the bike the head and barrel were removed. Bottom end seemed fine so left alone. If memory serves me correctly it's still on a standard bore. Valves were ground in. The engine starts easily (or did) and pulls well.
Over ten years ago the gearbox was completely rebuilt be a marque specialist and worked a treat - grease filled of course. This makes it all the more ironic that the kickstart mechanism has turned it into a non-runner. However, it should be a straightforward fix for somebody who has time, facilities and knowledge to sort it out.
Ariel owners will see that a non-standard tank has been fitted. Right make, wrong year. The speedo should sit in a panel in the centre of the tank. That's all gone so I've fitted a refurbished speedo that looks like it's off a W/NG. It seems to work well enough. Certainly road legal and indicated speed is close to genuine.
