Description
Good clean electric start Commando project.
UK bike with matching numbers first registered 1976. Last used in 1996. Three previous keepers before me.
Speedo shows 10000 miles but cannot be confirmed as no detailed history.
Starts easily from kickstart or electric start and runs well with no unusual noises. Puffs a little smoke if been stood for any length of time. Has Boyer electronic ignition and four field-coil upgrade to starter motor. Akront alloy rims and stainless spokes. Very good tyres. Front and rear brake calipers upgraded from original Lockheed items and both work well.
Chromework varies being very good in some areas and a little tired in others. Items needing attention (although you may decide you can live with them) Some chips on tank paintwork.
Good solid tank though with no leaks. Rev counter functions OK but has had a low quality repair to the glass and bevel. The clock surround has also been repaired. Non standard front indicators fitted. Rear shocks need refurb Drive chain has seen better days. Small oil leak noticeable on bottom of primary chaincase when engine has been run. Likewise in the rocker cover area. This is an old Brit bike so oil leaks are part of the deal. Probably new gaskets required. One small amount of fin damage to the rear of the left sparkplug. Not normally noticeable. Charging light shows when engine running but charging system is working OK.
Owners handbook. Norton workshop manual and parts list included. No history but folder of receipts for spares purchased in the past. I owned one of these in my youth and bought this one trying to recapture some of my fond memories. The truth is it just doesn't do it for me.
I don't have that excited “new bike in the garage” feeling. I haven't done anything with it since I bought it. So I'm being practical and letting it go. So to summarise. a very clean running Commando with minimal work to put back on road. It is not MOT'd or taxed. Just so we all know where we stand. I have set a price of £5750.
