Description
Norton Commando Fastback from 1968
G registration (1968)
Note - This is a 'classified' listing - not an auction - which means you can make offers at any time which I might accept. No need to wait till the end (it may be sold by then)
The 'speckled' effect on the chromework is NOT corrosion or poor chrome - it started to rain as soon as I wheeled her out of the garage (typical).
I bought this a couple of years ago with the attention of attending classic bike rallies on something more practical than a mid-1930s single (which seemed to take ages to get anywhere).
Now I have been offered another 'dream' bike. and need to raise the funds to buy it.
Hence the sale
This Norton has had a lot of money spent on it over the years - I have a thick sheaf of receipts from various suppliers and engineers around the UK. Money was no object to make it run. look. and handle wonderfully.
So its in very good order mechanically and physically.
It starts easily. and ticks-over like it should (its fitted with electronic ignition).
The front brake is the correct twin-leading-shoe set-up for this model and year (stops well)
Has twin Amal concentrics - which work well
Its a good looking Norton. and always draws comments when seen on the road.
A very desirable model now.
The fuel tank is the original glass fibre
The only thing that might need looking at is the isolastic suspension - I have never touched it - but I was aware when I bought the bike that it might need adjustment.
There is a well-known company in Andover that agreed to set it up for me - but I could never get the time to drive down there. I have since discovered it is straightforward to do yourself. So this still needs looking at.
Reading the info on the V5 - it states that it was 'Used/registered overseas'. and the previous owner said it came back from the USA in 1999.
It has correct matching engine and frame numbers.
It will need very little re-commissioning. although it hasn't run much since I bought it about 2 years ago. it has been regularly kicked-over. and the battery kept on a modern trickle charger. The metal parts hgave been treated with a protective spray to prevent corrosion
Everything works - It could be ridden away today
If you need more pictures. or other information - please contact me.
I have seen similar bikes listed for up to £13000 and more. but I am happy to sell at a lower. but fair. price for a fast sale.
Its a beautiful and solid bike - but remember - this motorcycle is 45 years old - be realistic in your expectations - its not like a modern Yamaha or Honda.
Do come and view without obligation to buy.
The value of this Norton can only go up due to its age and rarity - historic tax is free.
At the end of auction - the winning bidder must pay £200 by Paypal within 24 hours as a non-refundable holding deposit - otherwise the bike will be re-listed without warning
The balance must be paid in cash - not Paypal.
This is a private sale - item sold 'as seen' with no guarantee of any sort.
