Description
1973 Norton Commando 750cc Roadster
Here is a very solid strong running. mechanically sound example of the 5 times MCN bike of the year - The Norton Commando.
This example is not pristine but it is very sound and reasonably cosmetically respectable. It could easily be polished up and enjoyed as-is but I suspect these days someone will want to improve it to a more shiny standard.
The bike starts well and sounds very good mechanically. It rides very well indeed. bags of torque! Speedometer & rev counter are both working OK. The electrics are good with good charge coming from the alternator.
Brakes are decent. well the single front discs were never fantastic!
Gearbox & clutch are both in A1 working order.
The bike comes with V5C registration certificate. Registration number SCW 499L. frame number 207671. engine number 201411. These numbers match the V5C.
It is MOT'd until November and is registered for historic vehicle (free) road tax.
Cosmetically the bike is in “very good for age unrestored condition”.
The paint on the frame looks to be the original. sound but generally dull. Paint on the steel tank is a good gloss enamel. The side panels are OK.
There are no broken fins on the engine and it is nice & oil tight.
The front rim is a Dunlop with very good chrome for age. not perfect & with a few small patches & spots. The front spokes are clean & dry rustless type. nipples are lightly rusted.
The rear rim is an excellent Jones item. probably original with really good chrome. The spokes are excellent rustless ones and the nipples are clean also.
Tyres are both Avon Road runners hardly used looking.
The exhaust down pipes are quite dull but not rusty. the silencers have reasonable chrome but are a bit scratched. scuffed and marked here & there. The seat is in very nice condition. no splits or tears. Chrome on the headlamp shell is very good. Green spot & rev counter look good.
All in all this is a terrific opportunity to own and enjoy a nice old unrestored commando which could be loved as is or restored to a higher standard. Personally I think it would be best to enjoy it as it is for a while. even as an all weather classic - but that choice is up to you!
Don't miss this good looking old 750cc Norton Commando.
