Seller notes: a cammy engined special built into a 1950s Velocette Mac frame
Description
I've owned this Velo for about three years now but haven't really put it to use. I bought it at the Stafford Classic Bike Show, where it ended up on a dealer's stall. It was previously owned for a short time by James Robinson, the editor of *Classic Motorcycle* magazine.
I've fired it up on only a few occasions and, apart from a run around the block, never put it on the road. Time to part with it.
An original Mk2 KSS will cost you north of 10K—this is a lot more affordable. It's a late 1940s Mk2 350 cammy engine and gearbox fitted into a 1950s MAC frame. The wheels are oriental, look like K2 Honda to me. A well-put-together machine.
I tracked down the builder who put it together in the 1980s and ran it for some years. There are a bunch of old tax discs showing its usage. It has a 12-volt alternator fitted and coil ignition fired via the original magneto. The wiring will need redoing, as the lighting circuit is disconnected.
This bike, being a bitsa, is really one for the engineers among you. The starting price is a good bit less than I paid. The photographs flatter it—it's not so shiny in the metal.
On a V5C in my name. Buyer collects, or I can point you to a decent courier service for UK mainland delivery.
