Description

1972 Norton Commando Roadster Combat, black/gold, rebuilt, beautiful condition. Condition is "Used". The motorcycle was rebuilt by Greg Marsh Enterprises in Northern Virginia. It is a C code Combat and has had the right SuperBlend bearing replacement and is a pleasure to ride. The link to the rebuild is:

The bike has pristine cases and I have the numbers cases for the new owner. The following is a cold start video:

Adding a road video (this is my son and he is 6'4” and 220 pounds):

If you are looking at this listing, you likely know what this bike is. The paint is essentially perfect. There are some tiny scratches where your thigh rubs on the oil tank cover - I couldn't even get it in a picture and only an obsessive owner (like me) would notice. The frame powder-coating is perfect. The Combat was a super-high compression version of the Commando and was thought by many to be the first "superbike." Though rebuilt, it is a 50 year-old motorcycle and will test your mechanical strengths. The high compression makes these notoriously hard to start. I have found this one starts on first or second kick if you figure out how to drop your body weight on the starting lever. You can't start it with your left foot on the ground - at least I can't. There is some bluing on the pipes at the head end. Not too bad. It drips a drop or two of oil if left sitting. When warm, the bike will put out a tiny bit of white smoke. I am told this is typical for Combats and there is no loss of power an no appreciable loss of oil in the tank. I have had the bike cruising at 75 mph and it will hold all day long. The carbs need adjusting from time to time as they are original Amals. I always use Lucas motorcycle oil and it is fresh. The tires and brakes are nearly 100%. It is just a beautiful, cantankerous old British roadster with the heart of a race bike. The Combats are rare and highly collectible. I will happily work with your inspectors/mechanics/appraisers/shippers. I make no warranties and the bike is sold as is.
