Description
1946 Triumph 350cc Motorbike.
3T (De Luxe) Production Years: 1945 to 1951.
The 3T De Luxe was introduced following the end of WW2 and was one of only 3 models available from Triumph at that time.
The De Luxe name referred to the adjustable de Luxe saddle.
The bike came with Lucas 6 volt electrics with separate dynamo lighting and rudimentary voltage control. The Sprung Hub was an optional extra for those who didn't like the rigid rear.
I have owned this bike since 2016, and in that time it has had a lot of work done to it. It has had new crankshaft main bearings, new oil pump, brake shoes re-lined, new wheel bearings front and rear, a complete re-wire as the old wiring had rotted.
The magneto has been overhauled and a modern condenser fitted to the points. The speedo was sent away for restoration and calibration, therefore only shows mileage since its repair. The dynamo has been rebuilt, but even though it gives out voltage it does not charge the battery. The lights do work but will drain the battery after a while. This hasn't been a problem for me as I only ride the bike during the day.
The fuel tank, oil tank, tool box, and front and rear mud guards have been repainted. The bike still runs on 6 volt electrics.
Overall the bike starts and runs well, and will happily sit at 40mph all day long. It makes good oil pressure, and usually starts on the 2nd or 3rd attempt.
