Description
1965 TRIUMPH 6T THUNDERBIRD
The model 6T Thunderbird, its engine a bored and stroked version of the 500cc 5T Speed Twin, was marketed as a hotrod in its day. The 6T provided an extra seven horsepower, satisfying the market for affordable high performance, without sacrificing reliability. It was immediately successful, more Triumph Thunderbird 650 twins being sold in the USA than in Britain. It became a cultural icon, Marlon Brando riding a 6T Thunderbird into cinemas as The Wild One. By 1965 it was still a fantastic bike, well-developed by this time, but nearing the end of its production life.
Classic 1965 Triumph 6T Thunderbird motorcycle. Correct numbers (Engine: 6T DU19999 Frame: 4965). Odometer: 73,961 miles. This bike was last registered in NSW in 2007. It is 'as collected' in 2007, and has been sitting in pallet-rack shed storage, unused, since then. The bike has NSW Police bike trim (see image for comparison) but that provenance cannot be verified.
