Description
This Viper is in good clean running condition. It has been mine since 1975, and has been kept as original as possible. It has been used very little since the 1980s, and has not been on the road at all since 2010. It is currently on SORN. It has the original registration, and all log-books from new (five previous owners). It has its original chrome mudguards in good condition, and original Dunlop chrome rims.
Wheels and spokes are good, and have not been touched during my ownership.
Headlamp nacelle, oil-tank, and toolbox lid even have original factory paint.
Other parts are nicely coach-enamelled, except the petrol tank, which was cellulose sprayed after I bought it in 1975, and the frame, which was stove-enamelled in 1985.
I have piled up quite a lot of receipts over the years. Most work was done in the mid/late 1980s. A rebored Alfin barrel was fitted (original iron barrel included), and the magneto rewound.
It has only done about 4,000 miles since then. New Avon tyres have been fitted in the last year, as well as a new battery.
Handbook, Manual, and Parts List are included, as well as the original rear carrier in usable condition (not currently fitted), and if required, Craven panniers (needing a little attention) and engine covers.
There are a couple of boxes of other minor new and used spares. As far as I can tell the machine is ready to use. It starts quite easily (for a Velo) and idles steadily.
Brakes have always been good, and there have never been problems with the clutch. It has the usual minor oil-leaks. It has been kept dry in the house for a lot of its life, and continuously since 2010, but since it has now been so long since it was ridden, I cannot guarantee that it might not need need some minor fettling. Increasing age (mine!) means it is time it found another home.
Viewing welcome (South Shropshire).
