1968 Norton 750 Atlas

When this bike was found, I didn't believe it had just 455 miles on it. The original owner bought it new in 1970, rode it for a few hundred miles and then had a minor accident on it. The right footrest was broken off, the headlight glass broken, tach glass was cracked, and the choke lever was broken. He never rode it again! It had 50 years of corrosion, sitting in the back of a Michigan garage, but I have to say it cleaned up well after several hours of cleaning and polishing. I repaired/replaced what was broken and still not believing the mileage was original, I pulled the head off just for peace of mind. It was flawless inside. Cross-hatching is still present in the cylinders. The flat top pistons are original. The carbs were spotless inside and the air filter appears original.
I tried to disprove the odometer reading but could not find one thing. The Avon tire date codes are even correct for 1968 and I replaced the original Avon tubes just for peace of mind because I wanted to ride it. After reassembly, I started it up and tuned it, and then took it for a ride down my country road. The speedometer worked initially for a couple miles and then the needle gave up and rested on zero. The odometer continues to work. All the switches, lights and indicators work. The bike runs great down the road and shifts through all 4 gears with ease. The clutch operates smoothly and the brakes both work adequately. I suppose you could keep this bike at its low miles but I think it should be ridden and seen on the road so other people can enjoy it too. I have a video of the bike running.
