I have recently realised that due to my age I need to move on some of my motorcycles so welcome to the sale of my Model W, it has been on SORN and dry stored since 2015. It comes with V5c in my name, original RF 60 logbook, the Reg No is age related as the original Reg No was sold off some years ago by a dealer, shame.
Cosmetically the bike still looks good given that the work was done by myself in 2013, the engine and box run nicely for a 1927 machine, please be aware on this model the hand change gear lever has no gate so it's a case of feeling for the gears, the throttle is controlled by lever again makes the ride interesting. Because the front brake was very very poor (expanding band) I fitted a Bantam back plate with normal expanding shoes this improved the braking, not perfect but better, I have the original parts. I replaced the rear sprocket for one with more teeth, the reason behind it is we have a lot of hills in Wales and this change again improved the bikes usability. The tank is half petrol half oil, there is a manual pump on the tank but this machine was one of the first to be fitted with a manually regulated mechanical oil pump, the pump just meters oil into the sump, the instructions were to leave a waft of smoke in your wake!, Has no lights or speedo, the carb is Amal not Triumph's own, one less lever to worry about, it has a nice Brooks saddle and matching brown leather tool box.
I used the bike until 2015, never straying too far from home, I think a couple of runs to The Mumbles were the furthest, but saying that it never let me down. When the novelty wore off I put it on sorn and into storage, it's a 277cc side valve engine don't expect great performance, it runs nicely at 25/30mph on the flat and believe me that's fast enough.
Just to confirm the oil system is total loss so expect a few puddles, the machine is Banbury eligible, I never did get around to taking part.
All the plating is dull nickel done by Ashford Plating, and there is a little surface rust in the petrol tank, it is structurally sound but it wouldn't harm if the rust was treated.
I forgot to fit the wicker basket for the photo shoot so have added four photos to show it in place and I have added video of engine running and I think it's the best one I have done so far.
